Wherever in the world governments have shackled their energy policies to nature’s ‘wonder fuels’, the sun and wind, it doesn’t take long for their constituents to enter a state of mortified panic as they recognise that their economic futures have been sacrificed to an obsessive cult-like ideology.

Because so much money was in the offing for those who played ball, very few boffins or bureaucrats were ready to call the renewables scam for what it is: the greatest economic and environmental fraud of all time.

However, as it becomes evident that the RE Emperor is only adorned in the clothes he was born in, it’s not only battered business owners and householders being crushed by rocketing power prices terrified of where this lunacy ends, those who understand how economies work are equally unnerved. And it’s a one-way street: once a community works out that wind power is the greatest economic and environmental fraud of all time, and that the wind industry delivers nothing but division, hatred and contempt wherever it rolls, that community will fight like fury to shut the door for good.

To the poorest and most vulnerable, power prices really do matter. Wherever governments have determined to throw billions of dollars in subsidies at intermittent wind and solar power, power prices have rocketed and the poor suffer.

In renewables obsessed Australia, 42,000 families now suffer from the modern phenomenon of ‘energy property’ (see our post here).

Families either struggle to pay power bills – forced to make a choice between heating or eating; or, unable to pay those bills, retailers simply chop them from the grid.

Bear in mind that this is all for the ‘greater good’ and, as we’re told repeatedly, it’s an ‘inevitable transition’, just like the Internet. Except that people can live meaningful and comfortable lives without the Internet. However, deprive them of affordable electricity and their lives become a constant, grinding misery. Here’s a take…

The total cost of attempting to incorporate intermittent, unreliable and chaotic wind power into a grid designed around stable, controllable, dispatchable power generation is utterly staggering.

In those places attempting to run on sunshine and breezes, grid managers are forced to regularly intervene, compelling the owners of conventional fossil-fuelled generation plant (coal and gas) to burn fuel and remain online, even when the wind is blowing which, due to the subsidies provided to wind power, prevents them from dispatching power to the grid and earning revenue from doing so. Compensating the owners of coal and gas-fired plant for burning fuel for no commercially defined purpose (other than keeping the grid from collapsing) has a cost.

The alternative to these massive ‘capacity payments’ is simply allowing the chaotic delivery of wind power to destroy the stability of otherwise reliable grids, outright.
