The propaganda wings of the wind and solar industry have a lot to answer for, not least repeated and violent abuses of the English language.

We are repeatedly beguiled by tales about our ‘transition’ to an all renewable future; and about how wind power is ‘free’ and getting cheaper all the time. However, the ‘transition’ is more like the path the perdition as power prices skyrocket driven there by colossal and seemingly endless renewable subsidies. Moreover, there is the not so minor issue of routine load shedding and blackouts, which has become part of the ordinary daily grind in Australia’s ‘wind power capital’, South Australia.

Australia’s Federal government is led by the patrician and aloof, Malcolm Turnbull. A couple of weeks ago, former Australian PM, Tony Abbott went to press, slamming Australia’s business and family killing Renewable Energy Target and calling for an end to subsidised wind power. Abbott quite properly observed that:

“The first rule of government should be to do no harm. Right now, the government must avoid all policy-induced hits on people’s cost of living and all policy-induced hits on the cost of doing business.”

Politicians these days tend to live cosseted lives, immune from the pressures of running a business or struggling to make ends meet in a low income household.

In Germany, around €190 billion has already been burnt on renewable subsidies; currently the green energy levy costs €56 million every day. And, the level of subsidy for wind and solar sees Germans paying €20 billion a year for power that gets sold on the power exchange for around €2 billion.

Energy poverty is a feature of daily life for hundreds of thousands; the promise of millions of groovy ‘green’ jobs is little more than a cruel hoax; and, adding insult to injury, the pretext for the insanity – the reduction of CO2 emissions in the electricity sector – hasn’t quite panned out as Green edicts predicted: emissions are, instead, rising fast.

If the justification for subsidies that will top €1 tillion was cutting CO2 gas emissions, the report card for 2016 on Germany’s Energiewende should score a big fat ‘F’.
