Chaotically intermittent and heavily subsidised wind and solar have sent power prices soaring in Australia. Barely a generation ago, Australians enjoyed the lowest power prices in the world, now they suffer the highest. And it took a little over a decade – see above.

In a helpful exposition of Australia’s self-inflicted power pricing and supply calamity, Alan Moran details the causes and consequences below.

Alan was prescient in his forecast of summertime blackouts – his article was published just a few days before 29,000 South Australian households and 200,000 Victorian households (not to mention dozens of energy hungry businesses) were unceremoniously dumped from the grid during a hot spell, which coincided with dramatic collapses in wind power output in both states.

The stated aim of the Green-left is the destruction of Australia’s reliable and affordable electricity supply. It’s dressed up as a burning hatred of evil fossil fuels, but in reality, it’s just naked contempt for their fellow Australians.

A couple of warm days last week – coupled with dramatic collapses in wind and solar output (the former related to the weather, the latter related to sunset) – saw dozens of energy hungry businesses chopped unceremoniously from the grid, along with 200,000 Victorian households and 30,000 South Australian households

Summertime temperatures weren’t the only thing that rose – there’s a palpable sense of fury among the proletariat, not least because they’ve been played for fools by those responsible for the mess.

In yesterday’s post, we focused on 25 January the day when Victorian wind power output struggled to produce 20% of its nameplate capacity, and 200,000 households struggled to survive without air-conditioning, or any of those other creature comforts one expects in a (notionally) first world country.

In this post, we’ll wind the clock back 24 hours and take a look at the chaos that reigned in both Victoria and South Australia.

The wind industry’s rampant bird and bat slaughter is an inconvenient truth, to be sure.

The wholesale slaughter of millions of birds and bats – includes rare, endangered and majestic species, like America’s iconic bald and golden eagles. The default response from the wind industry is to lie like fury and – when the corpses can no longer be hidden and the lying fails – to issue court proceedings to literally bury those facts (see our post here).

WISHING something is so doesn’t make it possible, and nowhere in politics is the gap between aspiration and reality larger than in the push to quickly eliminate fossil fuel use.

When it comes to reducing carbon dioxide gas, wind power is touted as the perfect panacea – turns out it’s an abject failure on that score, too.

Leaving aside arguments about whether CO2 is a toxic pollutant or a naturally occurring beneficial trace gas which plants crave, the primary object of Britain’s effort to power itself on bluster and breezes is reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the electricity generation sector.

Assuming some economic benefit from such a reduction, any trained economist might reasonably ask a few pointed questions about the cost of doing so.

It turns out, that Britain’s obsession with wind power has placed it in an even worse position than had it done nothing at all. Serious green goes to faux ‘green’ lobby groups peddling wind power.

The only way of explaining the push for subsidised wind and solar is money. And when we say money, we mean hundreds of billions of dollars of other people’s money.

In Australia alone, the Federal Government’s Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target will redirect over $60 billion in subsidies to wind and large-scale solar operators (all drawn from Australian power consumers and added to their power bills) over the life of that scheme.
