How Subsidised Wind & Solar Destroyed Australia’s Economic Competitiveness

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

Chaotically intermittent and heavily subsidised wind and solar have sent power prices soaring in Australia. Barely a generation ago, Australians enjoyed the lowest power prices in the world, now they suffer the highest. And it took a little over a decade – see above.

In a helpful exposition of Australia’s self-inflicted power pricing and supply calamity, Alan Moran details the causes and consequences below.

Alan was prescient in his forecast of summertime blackouts – his article was published just a few days before 29,000 South Australian households and 200,000 Victorian households (not to mention dozens of energy hungry businesses) were unceremoniously dumped from the grid during a hot spell, which coincided with dramatic collapses in wind power output in both states.

New Dark Age: Renewable Energy Debacle Crippling Business, Punishing Households

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

The stated aim of the Green-left is the destruction of Australia’s reliable and affordable electricity supply. It’s dressed up as a burning hatred of evil fossil fuels, but in reality, it’s just naked contempt for their fellow Australians.

A couple of warm days last week – coupled with dramatic collapses in wind and solar output (the former related to the weather, the latter related to sunset) – saw dozens of energy hungry businesses chopped unceremoniously from the grid, along with 200,000 Victorian households and 30,000 South Australian households

Summertime temperatures weren’t the only thing that rose – there’s a palpable sense of fury among the proletariat, not least because they’ve been played for fools by those responsible for the mess.

Lily D’Ambrosio heads up Victoria’s Climate Cult and the Department for Destroying Reliable and Affordable Energy.

On Friday 25 January, Lily – apparently channelling King Canute – assured her constituents…

Reality Check: Heatwave Blackout Gives Victorians Taste of the ‘Transition’ to Wind & Solar

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

The dreamers who think they’ll soon be running entirely on sunshine and breezes, have just been smacked with reality, in Victoria, at least.

There’s something poetic about watching infants being forced to grow up. And, so it is, with once loyal RE zealots, being forced to rethink their love affair, after their taste of what it’s like swelter in Melbourne, without the benefit of that first world necessity, electricity.

Over the last couple of posts, STT has focused on the chaos that reigned in South Australia and Victoria on a couple of hot days – coupled with wind power output collapses (see above) that resulted in hundreds of thousands being deprived of power, 200,000 in Victoria, alone – and the price of power going through the roof.

Watching the panic spread was, somewhat, amusing. Nothing like watching those who thought they understood the electricity system left floundering and struggling for…

Renewable Energy Meltdown: Heatwave Leaves Wind ‘Powered’ South Australians Sweltering In the Dark

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

If you’re relying on the weather for your power, prepare yourself to live without it: South Australians know the drill very well.

In yesterday’s post, we focused on 25 January the day when Victorian wind power output struggled to produce 20% of its nameplate capacity, and 200,000 households struggled to survive without air-conditioning, or any of those other creature comforts one expects in a (notionally) first world country.

In this post, we’ll wind the clock back 24 hours and take a look at the chaos that reigned in both Victoria and South Australia.

The graphic above is a snapshot of the debacle in South Australia, where more than 26,000 households were left powerless on a very hot summer’s evening (the figure increased after that).

Be warned that the story below is a mixture of hysteria and RE propaganda. South Australians and Victorians get to deal with the hysteria, STT…

Avian Exodus: Loons Vacate Vast Tracts of North Sea To Escape Wind Turbines

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

The wind industry’s rampant bird and bat slaughter is an inconvenient truth, to be sure.

The wholesale slaughter of millions of birds and bats – includes rare, endangered and majestic species, like America’s iconic bald and golden eagles. The default response from the wind industry is to lie like fury and – when the corpses can no longer be hidden and the lying fails – to issue court proceedings to literally bury those facts (see our post here).

A recent Indian study establish that wind turbines are responsible for slaughtering 75% of local raptors. Now a German study has found that North Sea loons are being driven from vast tracts of their favoured hunting and nesting grounds by offshore wind turbines.

Pulsing Punishment: Wind Turbine Infrasound Delivers Perpetual Torment for Neighbours

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

The evidence proving the unnecessary damage done to wind farm neighbours by the noise generated by giant industrial wind turbines is mounting by the day: Germany’s Max Planck Institute has identified sub-audible infrasound as the cause of stress, sleep disruption and more (see our post here); and a Swedish group have shown that it’s the pulsing nature of low-frequency wind turbine noise  (‘amplitude modulation’) that is responsible for sleep problems in those forced to live with it (see our post here).

Now a team headed up by Dr Mariana Alves-Pereira takes the research a step further, as outlined below.

Abstract
Within the context of noise-induced health effects, the impact of airborne acoustical phenomena on biological tissues, particularly within the lower frequency ranges, is very poorly understood.

Fantastic Nonsense: Claims About All Wind & Solar Powered Future Completely Implausible

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

It takes a special brand of delusion to believe that we’ll all soon be powered entirely by sunshine and breezes. These days, those peddling that myth are guaranteed to be in on the greatest government-backed rort in history.

Fantastic stories continue to appear about our imminent transition to a world that runs entirely on 100% wind and solar. Albeit, with trillions of batteries – said to be capable of accounting for sunset and the kind of chaos delivered by wind power’s sudden surges and complete collapses.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, no country has ever powered itself entirely using wind and solar power; no country ever will.

‘Green’ Energy Fail: Counting the Staggering Cost of Britain’s CO2 Emissions Reduction Policy

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

When it comes to reducing carbon dioxide gas, wind power is touted as the perfect panacea – turns out it’s an abject failure on that score, too.

Leaving aside arguments about whether CO2 is a toxic pollutant or a naturally occurring beneficial trace gas which plants crave, the primary object of Britain’s effort to power itself on bluster and breezes is reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the electricity generation sector.

Assuming some economic benefit from such a reduction, any trained economist might reasonably ask a few pointed questions about the cost of doing so.

It turns out, that Britain’s obsession with wind power has placed it in an even worse position than had it done nothing at all. If the object was reducing carbon dioxide emissions, then gas and nuclear were the obvious choices. Instead, the Brits plumped for wind power, sent power prices through the roof and placed their…

Grubby ‘Green’: Sierra Club Pockets $Millions Plugging Environment Wrecking Wind Projects

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

Serious green goes to faux ‘green’ lobby groups peddling wind power.

The only way of explaining the push for subsidised wind and solar is money. And when we say money, we mean hundreds of billions of dollars of other people’s money.

In Australia alone, the Federal Government’s Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target will redirect over $60 billion in subsidies to wind and large-scale solar operators (all drawn from Australian power consumers and added to their power bills) over the life of that scheme.

Although, to use the term ‘scheme’ is to add varnish to one of the greatest scams in history.

Rocketing power prices and a grid on the brink of collapse are the only ‘dividends’ to be returned from the LRET, the largest single industry subsidy scheme in the history of the Commonwealth.

Australia’s obsession with chaotically intermittent wind and solar means not only spiralling retail power prices, but…

Wealth Destroyers: Wind Turbines Crush Rural Property Values & Leave Many Homes Worthless

stopthesethings's avatarSTOP THESE THINGS

In Australia, hundreds of law-abiding rural citizens have had their valuable property rights permanently destroyed by wind power outfits – with knowing assistance from all levels of government.

Property values for those unfortunate enough to be situated anywhere near these things, are a mere fraction of what they would otherwise be; and even the mere mention of a proposed wind farm has rendered plenty of properties unsaleable – at any price:

Potential Wind Farm Neighbour Finds Idyllic Property is Now ‘Unsaleable’ at Any Price
